Job Description

Dream Achievers Youth Organization (DAYO) is a youth-led Public Benefit Organization registered under the former NGO’s Coordination Board with Registration Number OP.218/051/21-479/12560 and is based in Mombasa, Kenya. DAYO focuses on strengthening the capacity of young people across key thematic areas including community engagement and empowerment, health financing, media engagement, livelihoods development, entrepreneurship incubation, and youth-centered policy advocacy. The organization also intentionally works with socially excluded populations such as persons with disabilities, sexual and gender minorities, and young people.
Data Collectors / Enumerators
  • Position: Baseline Enumerators
  • Engagement Type: Short-term assignment
  • Duration: 5 working days
  • Location: Kaloleni, Kilifi South, Kilifi North, and Ganze Sub-Counties, Kilifi County
  • Reporting to: Monitoring and Evaluation Officer

The purpose of this assignment
  1. The purpose of this assignment is to engage qualified Enumerators/Data Collectors to support the collection of reliable, gender-responsive, and inclusion-sensitive baseline data that meets donor expectations for accuracy, ethics, and accountability.

Scope of Work 
  1. Data Collection 
  • Administer structured household/farmer questionnaires using approved digital tools (KoboToolbox/ODK). 
  • Support Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with cassava producers, traders, processors, youth groups, relevant county stakeholders, and other actors in the value chain. 
  • Capture GPS coordinates, photos (where consented), and observational notes as required by the tools.
2. Data Quality Assurance 
  • Adhere strictly to enumerator manuals, skip logic, and validation rules embedded in the tools. 
  • Review submissions daily to ensure completeness, internal consistency, and accuracy. 
  • Participate in debriefs and corrective feedback sessions as required by consultant/MERL officer.
 3. Ethical Conduct & Safeguarding 
  • Obtain free, informed consent from all respondents. 
  • Ensure confidentiality and secure handling of all data collected. 
  • Apply do-no-harm principles, particularly when engaging women, youth, and vulnerable populations.

Expected Outputs 
  • Completion of an average of 8 fully completed questionnaires per day, totaling approximately 40 questionnaires per enumerator over 5 days. 
  • Submission of clean, synchronized digital datasets within agreed timelines. 
  • Participation in daily field debriefs and final close-out review.

Duration and Reporting 
  • Duration: 5 consecutive working days. 
  • Enumerators must be available for the entire duration, including training and debrief sessions. 
  • Reporting line: Field Supervisor / MERL Lead, DAYO.

Qualifications and Experience
  1. Minimum Requirements 
  • Diploma or higher in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Social Sciences, Economics, Statistics, Development Studies, Monitoring & Evaluation, or related fields. • Minimum 1 year of experience in field-based data collection or research. 
  • Familiarity with Kilifi County contexts and communities. 
  • Demonstrated ability to use digital data collection platforms.

Preferred Competencies 
  • Experience in agricultural value chain, livelihoods, or market systems assessments. 
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili; local languages (Giriama, Chonyi, Rabai, Kauma, Duruma) are a strong asset. 
  • Proven understanding of gender equality, youth inclusion, and disability-sensitive engagement. 
  • High standards of professionalism, punctuality, and accountability.

Stipend, Payment, and Procurement Compliance 
  • Enumerators will receive a fixed daily stipend, aligned with DAYO and donor-approved field rates. 
  • The stipend is inclusive of field time and local travel within assigned areas, unless otherwise specified. 
  • Payment will be processed upon satisfactory completion of: 
  • Assigned data-collection targets, 
  • Submission of all completed tools, and 
  • Data quality verification by the MERL Lead.
  • Payments will be made through official channels in line with organizational financial controls and donor audit requirements. No advance payments will be issued.

Logistics and Equipment 
  • Enumerators are expected to have access to a functional smartphone or tablet compatible with digital data collection. 
  • DAYO may provide devices where necessary, subject to availability. 
  • Enumerators must be willing to travel within assigned sub-counties.
