Job Description

Established in 2002 in Kilifi, Moving The Goalposts is a sport-for-development organization that uses football to empower girls in rural and urban areas of the coast region. MTG envisions a more inclusive, just, and peaceful world where the human rights of girls and women are realized and protected. Using a rights-based approach, the organization focuses on sexual and reproductive health, rights, and choice. Over 9,000 girls aged 9–25 participate in leagues across Kilifi, Mombasa, Kwale, and Tana River counties.
Job Purpose
  • The Communications Officer plays a key role in shaping MTG’s brand narrative. You will develop, produce, distribute, and monitor engaging content across multiple platforms to support MTG’s strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Communication Strategy & Content Development
  • Lead the execution of MTG’s Communications Strategy.
  • Implement annual and quarterly communication plans in collaboration with staff.
  • Support internal teams in building communication capacity and provide weekly progress updates to the Executive Director.
  • Work with designers to produce high-quality infographics, videos, photography, and audio stories.
  • Write, edit, and distribute content including: Press releases, Feature stories, Speeches, Website copy and MTG annual report 
  • Develop and manage the MTG podcast.

2. Media & Digital Engagement
  • Manage MTG’s website and social media platforms with regular updates.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists.
  • Maintain a media contacts database.

3. Documentation & Records Management
  • Maintain an organized archive of communication assets, including media coverage and web analytics.
  • Collaborate with program teams to document success stories.
  • Produce the annual Digital Success Story Booklet.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports.
  • Develop and manage budgets for communication activities.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, or a related field.
  • 1–5 years of professional experience in communications, preferably in the nonprofit or Sport for Development sector.
  • Writing: Ability to write and edit press releases, newsletters, and impact stories while adapting tone for different audiences.
  • Visual Storytelling: Skills in producing photo essays, short-form videos, or campaign assets.
  • Software: Experience with Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office Suite, and Content Management Systems (CMS).
  • Social Media: Proficiency in Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and X (Twitter) including scheduling and analytics.
