Oceans Alive Foundation is a Kenyan marine conservation NGO that focuses on community-based marine resource management. The organization is committed to supporting communities in safeguarding marine biodiversity and ensuring sustainable use of marine resources. Oceans Alive has created an integrated approach to the sustainable management of marine resources driven by the communities that rely on the ocean. We bring all key stakeholders together, including these Costal communities under a collaborative management approach. In early 2022, the first Co-Managed Area Plan in Kenya, driven by Oceans Alive, was signed off placing an area of 150 sq km under community-led management. We are currently hiring

Job Summary
  • We are seeking a dedicated Communications Assistant to support our Public relations and communications officer in developing external communication materials for donors, partners, community stakeholders and to the public
including development of films, media, storytelling, and the implementation of media campaigns, events, and exhibitions and maintaining OA digital capacity, institutional memory, film library, PR materials, website, presentations and upkeep of the database on the OA dedicated server.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support in the development of OA external communications, both educational and impact results, through media campaigns and storytelling using a peer-to-peer approach and living-classrooms to tell of established and successful solutions
  • Contribute to the production and development of film, leaflets, posters and media content, making of impact stories and outreach material both for partners and donors, local community stakeholders, other stakeholders and for international audiences
  • Assist in the management of OA footage, media, and awareness materials and resources and contributing to the development of well-written and photographically illustrated reports, informative newsletters and newsfeeds
  • Assist in the planning and preparation of OA festivals, exhibitions, events, and partner hosting. Work together with the Program Leads to develop organized working systems, personal goals, targets, and evaluations that are in line with PR and communications content timelines, expectations and deliverables

Key Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, or media work.
  • 3–5 years in media campaign development, storytelling, and content production working with NGOs, conservation organizations, community-based organizations, or development programs.
  • Experience in fundraising, grant management, and Kenyan regulations.
  • Experience in fundraising communications and grant-related visibility requirements is an added advantage.
  • Passion for marine conservation; fluent in English and Swahili.
  • Ability to thrive in a coastal, community-focused environment.
