Elimu Resource Centre (ELIMU) is seeking a dynamic, visionary, and values-driven Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the organisation into its next phase of growth and impact.
Based in Malindi, Kenya, ELIMU empowers children, youth, and families through innovative education, digital literacy, skills development, and community-based programs. The organisation is at a pivotal stage, transitioning from a Canadian-directed initiative into a strong, independent Kenyan-led institution. The CEO will provide overall strategic, operational, and inspirational leadership, ensuring the organisation’s sustainability, growth, and impact. This role requires a leader who can effectively guide teams, strengthen partnerships, mobilize resources, and position ELIMU as a leading and credible actor in youth development and education in Kenya. - Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction aligned with ELIMU’s mission, vision, and values.
- Guide the organisation through its transition into a sustainable and locally rooted Kenyan entity.
- Provide direction, inspiration, and motivation to staff, volunteers, and stakeholders.
- Foster a positive organisational culture based on transparency, accountability, collaboration, and inclusion.
- Lead and supervise the Executive Team and oversee human resource management, including recruitment, performance management, and staff development.
- Oversee financial planning, budgeting, and financial management systems.
- Ensure strong financial accountability, transparency, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Develop and implement strategies for financial sustainability, including diversification of income streams.
- Develop, strengthen and manage partnerships with institutional donors, foundations, corporations, and individual supporters.
- Lead fundraising initiatives, including proposal development, donor engagement, and reporting.
- Represent ELIMU as a credible and influential organisation in education and youth development at local, national, and international levels.
- Ensure effective implementation of high-quality education and skills development programs.
- Oversee monitoring, evaluation, and learning systems to measure impact and inform decision-making.
- Work closely with the Board of Directors to guide organisational strategy and performance.
- Support the Board in strategic planning, monitoring, and evaluation processes.
- Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and governance requirements for nonprofit organisations in Kenya.
- A relevant graduate degree in Business Administration, Community Development, Social Work, Education, or a related field.
- Minimum of 6 years’ leadership experience in an NGO, PBO, social enterprise, or community development organisation.
- Strong understanding of the Kenyan development and education landscape.
- Demonstrated experience in fundraising, donor engagement, and partnership development.
- Proven ability to manage budgets, financial systems, and operational procedures.
- Experience with organisations that have income-generating activities or social enterprise models is an added advantage.
- Strong strategic thinking, leadership, and decision-making capabilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and digital collaboration tools such as Google Workspace.
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Swahili.
- Willingness and ability to travel within Kenya and internationally as required.
