Project Overview
- BOMA is implementing a 5-year project, “Creating Shared Value with Young People in the Livestock Sector (CASHA) Project,” designed to transform the livelihoods of 300,000 youth and women across 15 Arid and Semi-Arid Land (ASAL) counties by unlocking opportunities in livestock and agri-related value chains. The project will enhance the competitiveness and inclusivity of these sectors by equipping young women and men with relevant skills, knowledge, and capacities to access dignified employment, establish sustainable enterprises, and participate meaningfully in value chains. Through strengthened market linkages, improved access to finance and investment opportunities, promotion of gender equity, and adoption of climate-smart livestock practices, the program seeks to foster resilient livelihoods while contributing to inclusive economic growth.
Job Summary
- The Business Coach will be responsible for delivering hands-on enterprise development support to young women and men participants engaged in livestock and agri-related value chains. Using both the REAP Graduation Model and a Market Systems Development approach, the Business Coach will lead in participant targeting and selection, training, business mentorship and coaching, grant management, group savings and loaning linkages to markets and financial institutions to enable participants build viable, scalable, and resilient enterprises. He/She will work closely with consortium partners and technical experts for participants to access technical skills and support required in growing their businesses.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and onboard program participants.
- Customize and deliver business training and coaching using the REAP model.
- Conduct enterprise assessments and develop tailored coaching plans.
- Support participants to establish and grow livestock and agri-enterprises.
- Provide technical skills in climate-smart agriculture and livestock practices.
- Conduct value chain and market systems analyses.
- Link participants with markets, off-takers, financial institutions, and ecosystem actors.
- Promote inclusive youth- and women-friendly business models.
- Strengthen market access through aggregation and partnerships.
- Train participants on business models, financial planning, and cashflow management.
- Improve access to savings, loans, digital finance, insurance, and grant funds.
- Form and strengthen VSLAs, including financial literacy and life skills training.
- Support participants to develop business plans and apply for Challenge Fund grants.
- Monitor utilization of Challenge Fund grants.
- Deliver training on entrepreneurship, marketing, sales, and agri-enterprise management.
- Facilitate mentorship sessions with business and savings groups.
- Collaborate with government, TVETs, and private sector to unlock markets and skills.
- Collect high-quality M&E data and maintain business/VSLA KPIs.
- Use digital tools for data capture and reporting.
- Participate in review meetings and share data insights.
- Document success stories, lessons learned, and market insights.
- Maintain assigned tools and equipment.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Agribusiness, Agriculture, Livestock Production, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Rural Development or related field.
- 3–5 years’ experience in livestock and agri-value chain development, preferably within ASAL areas.
- Experience in business coaching, MSME support, or Business Development Services (BDS).
- Knowledge of Market Systems Development (MSD/M4P).
- Experience working with youth, women, refugees, pastoralist and agro-pastoral communities.
- Proven ability to build market and financial linkages with private sector actors.
- Strong coaching, mentorship, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Good understanding of market dynamics, enterprise growth, and financial literacy.
- Experience in data collection, analysis, and generating insights.
- Ability to ride a motorcycle with a valid A1/A2 license.
- Digital literacy (mobile data collection, MS Office; Salesforce is an added advantage).
- Ability to work independently in remote field settings.
- MUST be a resident of the target county and fluent in one local language from the county (within the 15 CASHA project counties).
